Miss storytime? You can practice many of the early literacy concepts we use in storytime at home! Don't forget to sign up for text alerts so you can make it to the next storytime!

Theme: Under the Sea

Use the five early literacy practices; talking, singing, reading, playing and writing with these books and projects!

TALK about oceans. Nonfiction books are great for building vocabulary. Look in the ANIMALS/OCEANS neighborhood for books with numbers on the spine to find nonfiction about oceans. Try to explain unfamiliar words instead of replacing them with familiar, easy words.

Get ready to WRITE by coloring your dolphins.

SING some ocean songs. Try some old favorites like "The wheels on the bus" with new words - how about "the animals under the ocean"?

PLAY with your dolphin puppets. After you have colored them, tape them to the popsicle sticks and put on a puppet show!

READ some of these stories about oceans (find more in the ANIMALS/OCEANS neighborhood)
