Take home storytime: Outer space

Miss storytime? You can practice many of the early literacy concepts we use in storytime at home! Don't forget to sign up for text alerts so you can make it to the next storytime!

Theme: Outer space

Use the five early literacy practices; talking, singing, reading, playing, and writing with these books and projects!

TALK about space. Do you know the names of the planets? Look at pictures of astronauts. What are they wearing?

Get ready to WRITE by decorating your crafts, building fine motor skills.

SING Rocketship Run with Laurie Berkner

PLAY with your rocket ship! For more detailed instructions, check out
Decorate your rocket and tape it to the little paper tube. Slide the tube over your straw and blow into the straw and watch your rocketship launch!

To create your foil moon, lay the moon over an assortment of coins. Gentle press the foil down, creating "craters." Glue your moon to the black paper and add stars or other decorations as desired.

READ some of these stories about space (find more in the NATURE/SPACE and GO/AIR neighborhoods)

Just right: Searching for the goldilocks planet by Curtis Manley
Go for the moon by Chris Gall
Astro Girl by Ken Wilson-Max
Space disaster by Matthew McElligott
